American Invasion! (Part 2: Western Massachusetts)

After finishing up the East Coast Corner session on the backside of Greylock, we skated the “frontside” of it. We skated it a few times, and each time took it a little faster. That road is gnarly for many reasons… It was narrow, really grippy pavement, wooden guard rails, rumble strips big enough to eat wheels,  and through all of the turns it was steep…

We started skating it slow race style, but a slow race on a top mount with grippy wheels, on grippy pavement made it more difficult to stay behind J-raw when he was throwing huge slides on his double drop with wheels good for slippy doodles…

So skating it quickly was very fun… big check slides into turns that you could grip, but didn’t want to…

After leaving Greylock, we drove to another spot, Whitcomb as it is called. On the way there, we drove past this sign:

We could have skated the road that the sign was on, but it was highly trafficked and had construction at the bottom.

American Invasion! (Part 1: EAST COAST CORNER SESSION)

This trip started on a Thursday evening for Pat Schep and I. We drove up to “the zoo”  (J-Raw’s house) There he gave us the grand tour of all of his animals… He showed us the snakes, the frogs, the geckos, the monsters (Nile and Water) and of course, the kittens, rabbit, and one particularly fat rat.

We shot the shit, and played with the animals until the wee hours of the night. At one point, Pat had a 10 foot snake on/around his lap. 10 ft. snake from J-Raws

Waking up the next morning, we gathered our things, and drove through the beautiful Western Massachusetts scenery to skate some of the fun, gnarly roads that they have up there. We went to Greylock first, which has beautiful, stupid-grippy pavement. We drove up one side, and J-raw suggest we warm up on the back-side which has a right hairpin followed by a left hairpin.

The birth of a nick-name…

It all started at Nick Grasso’s outlaw-fail that he had in Southern Vermont last fall. I had partied a little to hard the night (and early morning) before and the entire time I was speaking in grunts, groans, and an indescribable combination of the two.

Here’s a quick video of that event…
